<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of a sheet or reduce sheet carrying failures in a paper feeder or the like provided with a sheet separating mechanism for separating sheets one by one. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A storage part 37 is provided between a delivery roll 32 and a document separation part 33 in a carrying guide 36. The storage part 37 is a groove (dent) formed along the axis of a retard roll 35, and has a V-shaped section in this embodiment. Namely, in the carrying guide 36, the storage part 37 is formed by extending a carrying path (the width between an upper guide 36A and a lower guide 36B) once from the delivery roll 32 toward the document separation part 33, and then bending the carrying path to be narrowed. When a sheet is distorted, the distortion of the sheet is stored (evacuated) to the storage part 37, whereby damage of the sheet is prevented. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
