PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a pressed powder body for a vertical edge type throwaway chip with a chip breaker projected from the rake face, for example, by making punches advance or separate in the thickness direction of the chip body. SOLUTION: A die for press forming of pressed powder is provided with punches 21 and 22 which mutually face and are relatively made to advance or separate and a die 24 defining a cavity 23 surrounding the periphery of the punches 21 and 22. The die is used to perform press forming of a pressed powder body by pressurizing material powder put into the cavity 23, with punches 21 and 22. A concave part 26 which recedes towards the outside of the cavity 23 is formed in the die 24 and material powder to be pressed by punches 21 and 22 is closely filled in the concave part 26, so that a projecting portion which becomes convex relatively to a portion adjoining to the direction side where punches 21 and 22 are separated is formed in a portion of the pressed powder body which is formed by the die 24.
