PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a thermocouple for a long time in an environment repeatedly causing bending, expansion, contraction, or the like. SOLUTION: The thermocouple 24 is compliantly deformed with ease when a bend is given thereto since positive-electrode and negative-electrode metal bodies 32 and 33, made of different kinds of metal and spirally deformed, extend along center cords 28 and 29 made of organic fibre. Therefore, the amounts of deformation (flexure) arising in the metal bodies 32 and 33 are small in comparison with those in a case where these metal bodies 32 and 33 extend along the center line L of the center cords 28 and 29, This prevents fatigue failure of the metal bodies 32 and 33.
