PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner, having high reliability, compact and inexpensive. SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes: a light source device emitting a laser beam modulated based on image information; a light deflector including a plate member having a mover provided with a reflecting surface rocked by resonance vibration to deflect and scan the laser beam emitted from the light source device and an actuator for driving the mover; an imaging optical system for imaging the laser beam scanned by the light deflector on a photoreceptor; and an optical box integrally housing the above, wherein the rocking axis of the mover is substantially parallel to the scanning plane of the imaging optical system.
