Disclosed is a method for manufacturing an optical element that can easily correct defects of partition walls, can prevent color mixing of an ink between adjacent pixels when the ink is coated by an ink jet method and does not have any adverse effect on the drive of a display such as a liquid crystal panel or an organic EL. The method comprises the step of forming a partition wall (2) having liquid repellent properties on a base material (1), the step of detecting a defect part (3) in the partition wall (2), the step of removing a part, of the partition wall (2), located around the defect part (3), the step of coating a partition wall correcting liquid (4) containing an ink repellent agent (a polymer having a polyfluoroalkyl group and a double bond on the side chain thereof) onto the area, from which the partition wall (2) has been removed, and curing the coating, and the step of coating an ink by an ink jet method onto pixel areas partitioned by the partition wall (2) to form pixels.
