PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform stable coin identification against temperature variation even when using a lens substantially varying in characteristics with temperature variation like a plastic lens. SOLUTION: A coin identification device is configured so that an imaging unit acquires a coin image by collecting reflected light by means of a lens unit; a temperature sensor detects an acquisition time temperature representing a temperature at the time when the coin image is acquired, and prestores in a storage unit magnification information indicating a relation to the magnification for the acquisition time temperature and a reference temperature with respect to variation in magnification of the coin image caused by temperature characteristics of the lens unit; and an image diameter calculation unit and an image cut-out unit correct the coin image based on the detected acquisition time temperature and the magnification information.
