PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which can raise a through-put of recording processing in frame-less recording free from smear of the exterior of an existence region of a recording medium at the time of recording processing, and to provide a method for controlling the image recorder and its program. SOLUTION: A recording medium detecting part 5 is provided on the upstream side of a conveyance mechanism 6 in a conveyance course, and carries out detection of at least a front end and a rear end in a conveyance direction of the recording medium. A nozzle array controlling part 18 carries out driving control of a plurality of nozzles on the basis of job information notified from a higher-order device 19 and detection information of the front end and rear end by the recording medium detecting part 5, thereby making recording processing executed to deliver an ink to only a region in the range from the front end to the rear end of the recording medium. A controlling part 17 carries out receiving processing of image data and also notifies the higher-order device 19 of stopping of transfer of the image data according to the detection of the rear end of the recording medium by the recording medium detecting part 5.
