<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a metal bottomed container with a part of its sidewall being thin-walled, which is thin-walled without inserting any die in an inner wall side space, and any trouble such as fracture hardly occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the metal bottomed container comprises (a) a lower thick-walled area forming step of forming thick-walled areas on lower end sides of a bottom wall and a sidewall by the reduction-drawing of a member to be worked placed on a die by a punch, and (b) a thin-wall area forming step of successively working a thin-walled scheduled part in the thin-walled area by alternately repeating (b1) a thin-walling step (b1) for thin-walling a working part by loading a part of the thin-walled scheduled part on an upper face of the die, and executing the upset forming by pressing an upper upset die, and (b2) a thin-walled area advancing step of evacuating the upper upset die upwardly, pressing the working part thin-walled by the upset forming immediately before into a die hole by reduction of the punch, advancing the drawing of the thin-walled working part, and loading the thin-walled scheduled part to be upset next on the upper face of the die if any thin-walled scheduled part is further present.
