<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of classifying migration configuration of cells from information of cell contours and internal structures. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method includes the steps of: extracting a contour of an observation cell C from an observation image taken by an imaging apparatus; calculating a cellular deformation direction V<SB>P</SB>of the observation cell C on the basis of a shape feature of the observation cell; calculating a cell migration direction V<SB>R</SB>of the observation cell C from the observation image taken after lapse of a predetermined time; and classifying the migration configuration of the observation cell C on the basis of the cellular deformation direction V<SB>P</SB>and the cell migration direction V<SB>R</SB>.
