A harmonic current is suppressed inexpensively to improve a power factor and to miniaturize a reactor. An AC-DC converter has a rectifier (2) connected with an AC power supply through the reactor (5), a plurality of capacitors (6, 7) connected in series between the output terminals of the rectifier (2), a first switching means (3) connected between one of the input terminals of the rectifier (2) and the node of the capacitors, a second switching means (4) connected between the other input terminal of the rectifier (2) and the node of the capacitors, and a plurality of diodes (10, 11) connected in reverse parallel to the capacitors.
