<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a polyacene compound wherein it has high carrier mobility and can be expected to be used as an organic semiconductor, but, it is low in light resistance and oxidation resistance, is not stable, is low in the solubility in organic solvents, and therefore is poor in the repeatability in the performances as electric devices. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Pentacene is known to be an organic semiconductor material having high mobility. When the performance as a semiconductor is considered, it is clear that higher mobility is better. However, even a material having a low mobility has one or more uses. When industrial uses are noticed, reliability against irregularity on the mass production of devices and against the deterioration of the performance is an important element. From the viewpoint, has been synthesized the present compound which is one of polycyclic aromatic compounds more hardly oxidized than a pentacene skeleton and having good solubility in solutions. The compound exhibits remarkably excellent deterioration resistance, has good solubility in organic solvents, and can be applied to the manufacture of electronic devices as an organic semiconductor not only in a dry process but also in a wet process.
