A drive device is provided with a solenoid valve (120) serving as a pressure regulator valve for supplying the line pressure to a clutch (C1) of the forward first gear through a pressure regulator valve unit (140) and also serving as a solenoid pump for supplying oil pressure directly from a pump unit (160) and keeps the clutch (C1) at a low pressure (Plo) by allowing the solenoid valve (120) to serve as the solenoid pump during automatic stop of the engine (22).  Specifically, when the automatic stopping condition is satisfied, the drive device applies a square wave current the lower limit of which is a current (Iset) to the solenoid valve (120), and when the engine (22) is stopped and the line pressure is drawn out, the drive device switches the passage connection of the clutch (C1) by a switchover valve (50) from the passage connection to the pressure regulator valve unit (140) to that to the pump unit (160) to apply a square wave current the lower limit of which is the minimum current (Imin) smaller than the current (Iset) to the solenoid valve (120).
