Provided are an electrostatic capacitance motion detection device which has few limitations in the environments where the device is used, is unaffected by equipment vibration, and has a simple structure which does not require a special input device, and an input device which uses the motion detection device. When the electrostatic capacitance motion detection device detects motion in the direction of the X axis, a switching circuit (214) is used to set the polarities of drive electrodes (12a, 12d) both to positive (D+), the polarity of a detection electrode (12b) to positive (S+), and the polarity of a detection electrode (12c) to negative (S-).
