The device has a cover (5) arranged at an exhaust gas inlet connection (3) for closing the inlet connection during a cleaning process. Another cover (6) is arranged at an exhaust gas outlet connection (4) for closing the outlet connection in a pressure tight manner during cleaning process. Pressurized air supply devices (7, 7') are connected with a pressurized air source and arranged at the cover to provide pressurized air-flow path (b) directed against an exhaust gas flow path from a pressurized air source in to a monolithic catalyst block (2). An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning a catalyst device for motor vehicle internal combustion engine.
