A mowing machine comprises at least two rotary mowing devices 16, 21 each carrying a number of cutters 22 for rotation in a horizontal plane, and a freely rotatable guide 24 mounted adjacent at least one of the mowing devices, rotation of the guide being in a plane which is parallel, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), or inclined to the cutting plane of the adjacent mowing device, a portion of the guide 24 extending into the path of crop discharged rearwardly from the adjacent mowing device so that the cut crop causes the guide to rotate and deposit the crop in a row on the ground. As shown, the mowing devices are mounted from a beam 15 the left end of which is connected to and projects laterally from a tractor, the machine being towed in direction of arrow 17 as seen in Fig 4. The mowing devices 16, 21 are rotated in opposite directions, as .indicated by arrows 18, so that cut crop is discharged rearwardly of the machine between the two mowing devices, the crop then engaging the guide 24 which deposits the crop to its left thus leaving a strip behind the outer mowing device clear of cut crop so that the wheels on one side of the tractor may pass in this strip during the next cutting, operation. Alternatively, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the mowing devices (5) may be mounted on top of a common beam (1), the guide (12) being positioned for rotation in a horizontal plane behind the outermost mowing device (5a). As shown, the guide 24 overlaps part of the adjacent mowing device, and in alternative embodiments the plane of the guide 24 may be horizontal, the guide 24 may be disposed clear of the adjacent mowing device, the guide (12) may be inclined to the horizontal, and the guide (12) may overlap part of its adjacent mowing device. As shown, the guide 24 is frustoconical and may be provided with ribs but the guide may take alternative shapes such as a disc and drum. |
