<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optionally set a playback speed and to achieve smooth trick play regarding a digital broadcast recording and playback apparatus in which coded video data of a digital broadcast are recorded on a recording medium so as to perform trick play such as fast forwarding. <P>SOLUTION: Before recording on a recording medium, picture class information is analyzed by transport stream packet, then added to a transport stream and recorded on the recording medium. Otherwise, information of correspondence between picture class analysis information and a recording position of the transport stream packet on the recording medium is recorded at a position different from a transport stream recording position.
