<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process which can be suitably used for efficiently producing a carbonyl compound from an allyl ester compound in one step. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The process for producing the carbonyl compound (b) of the formula comprises reacting a specific allyl ester compound with water in the presence of a transition metal complex catalyst containing two or more Group 8-12 transition metal elements. This process does not require excess amount of water added to achieve the improvement of the reaction yield, and therefore is industrially very advantageous. At that time, the use of two or more transition metal complex catalysts containing a transition metal more quickly advances the reaction than the use of one transition metal complex catalyst.
