The method involves determining pressure (P2) after a compressor (16). A pressure ratio between the pressure and pressure (P1) before the compressor is determined based on speed of a turbocharger and an air-mass flow. The pressure before the compressor is calculated from the pressure ratio and the pressure after a compressor. The pressure ratio is determined from a compressor map that indicates pressure ratios for different speeds of the turbocharger based on the air-mass flow. The air-mass flow passes into an internal combustion engine (10) via a charge-air cooler (12). An independent claim is also included for an engine comprising a turbocharger for determining pressure before a compressor of the turbocharger.
