PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a wear-resistant metal body excellent in wear resistance. SOLUTION: A modified surface layer 113 in which tungsten carbide particles 21 are bonded by copper 23 is formed in the surface of a cemented carbide 2 by performing an etching process for forming an etched surface where a portion of a bonding phase 22 is removed by etching the surface of the cemented carbide 2, in which the tungsten carbide particles 21 are bonded by the bonding phase 22, with an acid and a process comprising irradiating a copper target, arranged together with the cemented carbide 2 in a chamber, with an electron beam so as to gasify copper, then liquefying the gasified copper on the etched surface, and infiltrating the liquefied copper into grain boundaries of the tungsten carbide particles 21.
