PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent tooth skipping from being caused when the rotation of a drive pulley is switched between the forward and reverse directions or when the drive pulley is rapidly reversed from a stopped state, by ensuring a required winding angle of an endless belt with respect to the drive pulley. SOLUTION: The belt driving device 11 includes: a drive motor 14 which can rotate in the forward direction and in the reverse direction D; the drive pulley 16 attached to an output shaft 15 of the drive motor 14; follower pulleys 12, 13 disposed separately from the drive pulley 16; the endless belt 8 composed of a timing belt wound around the drive pulley 16 and the follower pulleys 12, 13; a tension pulley 17 disposed in the vicinity and upstream of the drive pulley 16; and a winding angle retention member 18 disposed in the vicinity and downstream of the drive pulley 16.
