<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide resin solution for coating, containing a polyimide resin produceable at a low cost and having high organic solvent solubility, and at least one of organic solvents, to provide an optical compensation member obtained by using a laminate formed by coating the solution on a supporter, and having sufficient optical compensation ability (e.g., birefringence-manifesting property), and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The polyimide resin solution for the coating contains the polyimide resin produceable at a low cost, having the high organic solvent solubility, and prepared from two or more acid dianhydrides including MCTC having an alicyclic structure, and a diamine having a benzidine structure, and at least one organic solvent. The optical compensation member obtained by using the solution, and having the sufficient optical compensation ability (e.g., the birefringence-manifesting property), and the liquid crystal display device using the member are also provided.
