PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which uses an electro-optical crystal as a waveguide area for light, and uniformly varies the refractive index of the electro-optical crystal when applying an electric field to the electro-optical crystal without depending upon a material of electrodes used for the electric field application. SOLUTION: The optical device includes the electro-optical crystal 41 having electro-optical effect, an electrode 43 disposed on a first surface of the electro-optical crystal 41, and an electrode 44 disposed on a second surface opposed to the first surface. Further, insulating films 42a and 42b made of barium titanate are formed between the electrode 43 and electro-optical crystal 41, and between the electrode 44 and electro-optical crystal 41.
