<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a circuit scale without deteriorating precision in detecting a pseudo-contour, when detecting and suppressing the pseudo-contour. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image signal processor includes a pseudo-contour determining part 301 for determining the existence of generation of the pseudo-contour in a horizontal determination area, which includes a pixel of interest and a plurality of pixels horizontally adjacent to the pixel of interest, by operation using an adjacent pixel difference value between the respective pixels in the horizontal determination area, and determines existence of generation of the pseudo-contour in a vertical determination area, which includes a pixel of interest and a plurality of pixels vertically adjacent to the pixel of interest, by operation using an adjacent pixel difference value between the respective pixels in the horizontal determination area and also operation using an adjacent pixel difference value between the respective pixels in the vertical determination area.
