<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of accurately reproducing images. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image reader, a black reference value is obtained by shifting image data for a black reference image obtained by a CCD to the black side by a difference D between the maximum value and minimum value of the image data.
