<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operating environment of a client device, and to improve system quality, in a system for distributing a program from a server device to a client device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each client device 102 stores a name and version number of a program used by the device and an operation result in a storage device by a version configuration database 102a, and acquires the version number of each program from a server device 101 for collation by a program update control function 102b. When they are not coincident, the latest version of the program is downloaded from the server device. A program state monitoring function 102c starts the updated latest version of program, and monitors it until a normal EOF(End of File) is detected. When an abnormal code is detected, error information is transmitted to the server device.
