A railway car coupler head contour gauge (40) includes a cylindrical portion (42) configured to be rotatably coupled to a coupler head (10). A gauging blade (48) is coupled to the cylindrical portion. The gauging blade includes a gauging contour (50) that is configured to align with a contour face of a top pulling lug (28) of the coupler head after operational use of the coupler head.
