1,221,972. Dehydrogenating hydrocarbons. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 9 Feb., 1968 [10 Feb., 1967; 8 Nov., 1967; 26 Dec., 1967], No. 6497/68. Heading C5E. A feed stream which is free from halogens and contains alkanes in admixture with steam is dehydrogenated and/or dehydrocyclized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by combining (1) a porous support comprising Al 2 O 3 , HF- treated Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , MgO, ZrO 2 , an aluminosilicate or an aluminate spinel of a Group II metal with (2) one or more of Ni, Pt, Pd, Ru, Ir, Rh or Os, or a reducible compound thereof and treating the resulting composite with (3) one or more basic compounds of a Group I A or II A metal sufficient to impart to the catalyst a pH of at least 8. In examples, (1) n-butane is dehydrogenated using zinc spinel, Pt and K 2 CO 3 to yield a mixture of butenes and minor proportions of methane, ethylene, propane, propylene and butadiene, (2) propane is similarly dehydrogenated, and (3) n-hexane is dehydrocyclized at 1010‹ F., 70 p.s.i.g., and in the presence of a catalyst comprising Pt, K 2 CO 2 and zinc aluminate to yield naphthenes, benzene, cyclopentane, methylcyclopentene and methylcyclopentane and methylcyclopentadiene. |
