1,221,813. 813. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. April 30, 1969 [April 30, 1968], No. 20349/68. Heading F1F. To facilitate the manufacture of the end-plates of housings of rotary-piston I. C. engines, each end-plate is made in two separate parts with at least one part formed with a coolant passage and the two parts secured together in face-to-face relationship, with each provided with a shaftreceiving aperture. In a two-unit engine the endplate between the units includes two identical parts 10 forming therebetween a coolant chamber 14. The end-plate to the left of the engine includes a part 10 and a part 21 forming therebetween a coolant chamber 29 with the latter part formed with a divergent skirt 26 to receive an engine clutch assembly. The end-plate to the right of the engine includes a part 10 and a part 15 forming therebetween a coolant chamber 30 with the latter part being formed with a flange 20 for the attachment of engine auxiliaries such as an alternator and a contact breaker. The engine facilitates the casting of the end-plates as it renders unnecessary the fitting of core-plugs which are essential when the end-plates are made as one-piece castings. |
