<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system which does not need many kinds of printer drivers by selecting whether to enable an additional function of a printer driver on the basis of license information registered in a printer body in particular, in a printing system including a host device and a printer which are connected through a network. <P>SOLUTION: In the printing system, the host device and the printer are connected through the network. The host device has: a print data generating means for generating print data; and a printer driver which has a plurality of option functions, has acquires an optional function license key transmitted from the printer on the basis of a request to the printer, and generates a command to the print data on the basis of the optional function license key.
