<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner which can clean the floor face with sucking floating dust in the air in accordance with movements of its rotary brush. <P>SOLUTION: The electric vacuum cleaner is composed of an electric blower 2 which generates suction air, a suction device 6 which communicates with the electric blower 2 and sucks dust on the floor from its suction port 6a arranged in its underside, the rotary brush 15 which is arranged in the suction port 6a, a brush motor 13 which is arranged in the suction device 6 and drives the rotary brush 15, a floating dust intake 7 which is arranged in the top of the suction device 6 and sucks floating dust in positions higher than the floor face, an opening/closing cover 11 which opens and closes the floating dust intake 7 and a movable means 12 which deforms in accordance with the change in ambient temperature and transmits the opening and closing force to the opening/closing cover 11.
