PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of easily detecting regular seating by reducing erroneous recognition at detection of a foreign matter. SOLUTION: The machine tool abuts a working reference surface 1a of a material 1 to be worked retained by a collet chuck 2, i.e., a clamping tool on a seating end surface 3a of a reference seating surface setting member 3 to set the working reference surface, thereafter, it releases the reference seating surface setting member 3 to work the material 1 to be worked. The reference seating surface setting member 3 includes, on the seating end surface 3a, a plurality of fluid injection holes 3b communicated with a fluid feed source 4 in a range of a surface abutted with the material 1 to be worked. A control device 10 forcedly removes the foreign matter using compression air by an air blow means 12 when a pressure of a fluid feed passage 6 is reduced than a predetermined pressure by a pressure sensor 8.
