<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile information terminal allowing smooth input operation using many operation keys even if the many operation keys are provided on a surface opposite to a display surface of a display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The mobile information terminal includes the display; a plurality of operation keys provided on the surface opposite to the surface provided with the display surface of the display; a gravity sensor for detecting the direction of gravity; and a control section for assigning a key code to each operation key. The control section determines an assumed state of a first state with the display surface on the top side or a second state with the opposite side face on the top side, based on an input signal from the gravity sensor, and carries out processing for switching the assignment of the key code to each operation key according to the determined result.
