<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium etc., wherein degrading of a simple error rate is suppressed and side erasure tolerance is improved. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 200 includes: a first granular layer 204 which has a granular structure where nonmagnetic material separates magnetic grains from one another; and a second granular layer 205 which is formed on the first granular layer, has the granular structure where nonmagnetic material separates magnetic grains from one another, and has magnetic anisotropy different in amount from magnetic anisotropy that the first granular layer has.
