PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photodetector having a simple configuration and capable of achieving high resolution and high yield; a display device having a photodetection function and a photodetection method. SOLUTION: The photodetector comprises: a plurality of scan lines extending a first direction; a plurality of readout lines extending a second direction crossing the first direction; a plurality of photodetecting elements disposed at intersections of the plurality of scan lines and the plurality of readout lines; and a readout circuit connected to the readout lines. Each of the photodetecting elements comprises: a first transistor having a gate connected to scan lines, a drain connected to the readout lines; a source, and a channel layer; and a first capacitance connected to the source of the first transistor and accumulating charge of a photo leakage current generated by irradiation of the channel layer with light.
