The engine has exhaust gas turbochargers (9, 10) comprising two outlet valves (1, 2) arranged at each of multiple cylinders (3-6). The outlet valves of each cylinder are integrated to two groups. Exhaust gas is guided from the outlet valves to the exhaust gas turbochargers over exhaust gas channels (7, 8) that are attached to the group. A variable valve controller controls opening times of the exhaust gas valves depending on operating conditions of the engine. The exhaust gas turbochargers are equally dimensioned. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a multi-cylinder petrol engine.
