The method involves bonding an upper sheet metal strip (1) and a lower sheet metal strip (2) in a connection area. The metal strips are connected with each other by a bonded point weld in the connection area. An impulse (5) is exerted on a welding point (3) that is to be tested such that the welding point is detached from one of the metal strips. The impulse is adjustable in its strength. The strength of the impulse is selected based on sheet strength of a welded sheet. The impulse is exerted using a nail gun. The nail gun is operated with a cartridge of different charging strengths.
