The method involves sliding an untoothed cup-shaped sheet metal part on a pick-up mandrel (19) arranged on external teeth. The metal part is pressed together with the mandrel by a profile roller set such that a material is pressed into grooves of the mandrel. The mandrel is provided with externally toothed reference profile, and profile rollers are provided with a gear tooth profile, where each roller is radially moved during a rolling process and the roller set follows a contour of externally toothed reference profile under maintaining radial pressure required for mechanical deformation. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for producing an internally or externally toothed cup-shaped sheet metal part.
