The engine has a piston and a cylinder liner, where the cylinder liner is partially transparent and is permeable for infrared radiation. A surface or a wall of the cylinder liner is completely or partly provided with micro mirrors, which control passage of the radiation. The cylinder liner is surrounded by a vacuum area or an area filled with noble gas. The micro mirrors are tiltable, so as to reflect the radiation. The cylinder liner is made of glass ceramic, quartz glass, borosilicate glass, sapphire glass, soda glass or crystal glass. The cylinder liner is surrounded by a heat accumulator.
