A powered upward discharge ventilator comprises self-weathering non-return shutters 13 at the upper end of the extraction fan duct which are surrounded by a tubular windshield 15 which is substantially closed at its lower end to prevent entrainment of outside air through the shield. The lower part of the extraction fan duct comprises a rectangular section duct 31 terminating in a flanged top plate 30 to which is hinged at 24 a flanged base-plate 11 carrying the remainder of the extraction duct and the windshield 15. Rainwater collecting in the gutter formed by the latter three members drains through openings 18. Thumb screws 34 or a spring catch hold the plate 30 and base 11 together. Gutters cross the open upper end of the extraction duct to collect water draining off the edges of the shutters 13.
