OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZING PLATE, LIQUID CRYSTAL PANEL, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE OPTICAL FILM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film which comprises a polarizer and which allows a liquid crystal panel to have excellent optical characteristics when used in the liquid crystal panel, wherein variance of degrees of polarization particularly at both edges of a polarizer raw film in the width direction is improved.

SOLUTION: The optical film comprises the polarizer and a retardation film which are layered on each other. The polarizer is a uniaxially stretched film the direction of its optical absorption axis is changed along the uniaxially stretched direction. The retardation film has a distribution in the direction of the slow axis thereof. A distribution curve of the direction of the optical absorption axis of the polarizer in the uniaxially stretched direction is not matched with that of the direction of the slow axis of the retardation film.
