PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark ignition type direct injection engine capable of stabilizing combustion state during a cold engine period by surely making a large quantity of spray stay in a cavity while keeping the compression ratio of the engine high, in the spark ignition type direct injection engine accelerating catalyst activation during the cold engine period. SOLUTION: A receiving surface 37 receiving spray is formed on an inclined surface 31 at an intake side as indicated in (a). The receiving surface 37 forms a hollow part having a U-shape in a plane view which is one step hollowed. The U-shape is formed in such a manner that a cavity side (anti-injector side) is gradually widened. Injector side upper edge end 34a of the hollow cavity 34 is set to be positioned at a lower side of the anti-injector side upper edge end 34b as indicated in (b) by forming a part of an upper side of the receiving surface 37 to overlap the hollow cavity 34.
