PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcoat layer for a photoreceptor device, the layer improving wear resistance while having little influence on the electric performance of the photoreceptor device. SOLUTION: An overcoat layer composition is provided, comprising a charge transport component, a melamine-formaldehyde curing resin, and an aromatic polyol binder expressed by Ar-(L-OH)<SB>n</SB>, wherein Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon component having from about 6 to about 60 carbon atoms, L is a divalent ether linkage having from about 2 to about 50 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of from 2 to about 6.
