PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving superior image formation without causing distortion of paper or lowering of productivity. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is equipped with: a secondary transfer belt 51 provided at a position opposed to an intermediate transfer belt 43b across a conveying path of paper P; a fixing belt 62 provided on a downstream side of the secondary transfer belt 51 in the conveying direction of the paper P and provided at a position opposed to a rotating fixing member 61 across the conveying path of the paper P; a photosensor 66 detecting a position in a width direction of the fixing belt 61; a steering roller angle changing part 70 capable of changing a turning angle of a steering roller 65; and a first control part 90 controlling a stepping motor 75 based on a signal from the photosensor 66. In the case when paper restraint is present in both a transfer nip and a fixing nip, the control part 90 makes change amount of the angle of the steering roller 65 smaller as compared with the case when paper restraint is present in either of them or is present in neither of them.
