<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a current collector for a lithium ion battery having superior battery capacity, internal resistance, and charge/discharge cycle characteristics. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An aluminum foil for the current collector has a composition comprising 0.1 to 0.4% Si, 0.2 to 0.5% Fe, 0.5 to 3.0% Cu, Mn of less than 0.1%, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities, and the composition is distributed so that the peak concentration of Cu in 10 nm depth from the outermost surface becomes 1.0 to 5.0 wt.%.
