PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus and a printing method which conduct printing with high accuracy and high reproducibility. SOLUTION: A substrate stage 21 includes a main surface 21a which holds a glass substrate 22. A blanket support board 31 includes a surface 31a which holds a blanket 36 and the surface 31b of the backside thereof. An air balloon 38 applies pressure onto the surface 31b. The blanket support board 31 can elastically deform between a first condition wherein it flexes so that the distance H between the main surface 21a and the surface 31a may increase as it goes away from the fixed support end 31p supported in a fixed manner to a second condition wherein it extends so that the distance H may stay consistent. By applying pressure from the air balloon 38 with the position of the fixing board 41 maintained, the blanket support board 31 deforms from the first condition to the second condition, thereby making the blanket 36 contact the glass substrate 22.
