<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for surely preventing a document from being left behind, in reading a document using an FBS (flat bed scanner). Ž<P>SOLUTION: This image reader includes: a document platen for setting a document thereon; a document pressing plate member pressing the document set on the document platen in the direction of the document platen; an opening/closing mechanism opening/closing the document pressing plate member; a reading part reading the document set on the document platen; a determination part determining that the reading part has completed reading the document by the reading part; and an opening/closing control part opening the document pressing plate member on the document platen by operating the opening/closing mechanism based on the determination result of the determination part.
