Autodrafter with electric brake and method of converting an autodrafter for low-maintenance operation

The autodrafter (1) has a main drive (9) driving input and center roller pairs (8a, 8b). A regulation motor (2) i.e. alternating current servomotor, drives one of the input and center roller pairs. A regulation unit (11) regulates a rotational speed of the motor corresponding to thickness variations of a sliver (4) to be processed. A control unit (3) i.e. brake resistor, is attached to the motor to decelerate the motor until to a standstill condition and hold the motor in a secure operational stop. The control unit includes two parallely connected optocouplers with bidirectional contacts. An independent claim is also included for a method of converting an electrically decelerated autodrafter.
