Slide-in flapper valves

A flapper valve assembly attaches to a fluid device (22), such as a heat exchanger and has a fluid port (54) in communication with the fluid device (22) to provide by-pass flow in cold flow or pressure spike conditions. The flapper valve assembly includes a shim plate (46) and a face plate (48) that together define a slot (66) therebetween. A spring flapper (42) slides into the slot (66) and is retained therein and intermittently blocks flow through the fluid port (54) to provide the by-pass flow when required.
