Preparation of corydaline

Coryaldine (I) is prepared by the cyclisation of the isocyanate (II) in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) or ethyl polyphosphate (PPE). (I) has reserpine-like activity, but is less active and longer lasting in its effect.
