[Also in Division D1] The throat plate of a sewing machine is secured in position by means including a magnet loosely located in a cavity in the machine bed, whereby the top surface of the magnet is automatically movable into contact with the under surface of the throat plate. A magnet assembly 86 comprises a soft iron cup 88. a central magnet 96, and plastic material 106 separating magnet 96 from the side wall of cup 88. Aligned holes 94, 100 are formed in cup 88 and magnet 96 respectively. Assembly 86 is loosely located in a cavity 72 in the machine bed 16, and is retained therein by a fixed pin 112 which passes loosely through the apertures 94, 100 and has a head 118 adapted to engage the upper surface of magnet 96. When head 118 is located in an aperture 54 of a throat plate 34, the latter is located on a ledge 28 in bed 16, and assembly 86 rises to engage the upper surface of magnet 96 with the lower surface of the throat plate. |
